EMPTY BOWLS EVENT

Now is the time to purchase your tickets for the upcoming Empty Bowls event. Tickets usually sell out fast, so don't put it off! Empty Bowls, a fund raising event for local food banks, is coordinated by our Resident Artist in Clay County NC, Mike Lalone. Tickets are $25 and may be purchased from our Craft Shop, United Community Bank in Hayesville, and the Chamber of Commerce in Murphy.

Participants choose a bowl from a variety of beautiful hand made bowls donated by our local potters. The Folk School Dining Hall then serves a hearty meal of soup, bread, salad, and dessert, while live music is enjoyed.  

A brown bag auction will be held at 6:00 pm, where other pieces of locally made pottery are available. Extra bowls will be on sale for $20 after the event. Contact Mike Lalone at 828-361- 2462  

Murphy NC is just minutes from trout streams, hiking trails, kayaking or white water rafting through the Nantahala Gorge and Ocoee. You can browse in one of many antique and craft shops or just enjoy the sunset on your own deck in peaceful solitude. You CAN have it all!!!!!

Only 2 hours from Atlanta, Chattanooga and Asheville, Murphy, NC feels like it's from a different time and place. A time when life moved at a slower pace and people savored the simple pleasures.

Fall Festival is a celebration of our rich Appalachian heritage. Fine craft, craft-making demonstrations, music and dance performances, kids' activities, tasty food, and a visit to the school's Craft Shop and History Center make Fall Festival a great way to begin the autumn season.

Handmade Craft for Sale
Over 200 juried and non-juried craftspeople will offer their handcrafted items for sale including jewelry, woodturning, pottery, weaving, ironwork, photography, rugs, woodcarvings, furniture, paintings, baskets and much, much more.

Craft-Making Demonstrations
You'll be fascinated by over 40 demonstrations of traditional and contemporary craft. See how to throw a clay pot, turn a wood bowl, spin wool into yarn or create a fine Windsor chair.

Mountain Life Area
Visit our Mountain Life Area and watch traditional exhibitions such as blacksmithing, corn meal grinding and fly tying. Please check back closer to the event date for our craft-making demonstration schedule.

Kids' Activities
Fall Festival is a great family outing. Kids will particularly enjoy: Face Painting, Pony Rides, Wagon Rides, Drum Circle, and the Humane Society's Pet Adoption Booth.

Live Music & Dance on Two Stages
Tap your toes or stomp your feet to the sounds of old-time, bluegrass, folk, gospel and Celtic music both Saturday and Sunday. Dancers will delight you with clogging, Morris, Scottish, and Garland performances. The tentative entertainment schedule will be posted as the festival grows nearer - please remember that last minute changes may occur.
